I love my job

My involvement with the Islamic Center of Long Island has been a transformative experience that has allowed me to connect my faith with my passion for disability advocacy and educational equality. Through my work with the Capable Companions Committee (CCC), I have helped promote inclusion while celebrating the strength of children, teens, and adults with disabilities. capable companions focuses on creating a welcoming, strengths-based environment where individuals feel valued and empowered. This concept of full access to education, resources, and inclusion for all individuals was adapted by the Safeena Foundation. They are a nonprofit organization that helps people with disabilities gain access to Islamic education and different resources to live better lives based on their skills, abilities, and their actions, not the expectations of society.

In 2019 the Safeena foundation was founded by my afstan mission was to create an environment for all people with disabilities, one place where everyone is included and feel safe expressing who they are, where everyone has the opportunity to learn and be their true selves. As a result they worked with The Islamic Center of Long Island to create the new capable Companions in 2023 and started a Saturday school for kids with special needs teaching Islamic education disability resources . This is ground breaking ideas. Personal speaking I love being Muslim but there are accessible programs in masids for children with special education. Capable campion is the first Saturday school for people with disabilities to learn about Islam and make friends. This is Saturday school school should be in every muslid the school is every Saturday from 930 to 1 it needs to be Saturday and Sunday all over Nassau and Suffolk county.everyone needs a good education and learning about Islam .we teach kids the foundation of Islam and 5 pillars how to pray. Capable companion has a beautiful psychal education program lead by brother dawd. We also provide kids and family services like opwd self direction

I love working with the Capable Companions. It taught me to appreciate the little things, like achieving goals. Capable Companions is a nonprofit that helps students with different abilities learn Islamic knowledge and the prophet stories opwdd accommodations.Capabilities Companions is under capable care in a division of 5 class sister Fatima has the youngest kids 5 to 6 she is kind and patient each class has age group. Sister rurksana 7 to 8 class 9 to 10 rosy is and shima is teaching 12 -15. The kids are so positive and happy. I am glad Capabilities Companions has created this inclusive and Islamic for everyone

I actually admire all the kindness they show, always trying their best, sincerely and happily

. I feel like I am making a difference in the world. I have seen that this program is changing our own students they are happy to come to Saturday school I think

I supported sensory-friendly programming by adjusting lighting and noise levels, organizing quiet spaces, and assisting families during community events. I also advocated for greater accessibility in mosque programming and encouraged meaningful inclusion in youth activities. Through outreach and daily interactions, I promoted disability inclusion as a shared responsibility rooted in Islamic values of mercy and justice.

In addition, the ICNA Sisters Halaqa has been a source of spiritual growth and personal support for me. This weekly gathering provides a compassionate, judgment-free space where I strengthen my connection to the Qur’an and Sunnah, manage stress, and deepen my relationship with Allah.

My goal is to expand the program to kids with disabilities of all ages 6 to adults every one has unique talents.

I want everyone to know about capable companions every single person deserves an education and place to experience life and be there true selves

More involved with communication

My goal is to expand the Capable Companions program to serve individuals with disabilities across all age groups—from children as young as six to adults—because I believe that everyone has unique talents and gifts to offer. Every person deserves access to education, meaningful experiences, and inclusive spaces where they can truly be themselves.

I am especially committed to strengthening communication and outreach so that more families in our community become aware of the program and feel welcomed to participate. By improving how we share information, connect with parents, and engage volunteers, I hope to build a more inclusive and supportive environment where individuals with disabilities are not only accommodated but celebrated.

Through this work, my mission is to ensure that Capable Companions continues to grow as a space of belonging, empowerment, and opportunity for all.
