New perspective

 Preface

What do people desire the most in their lives? Do people want religion, love, attention, technology, money, fame, intelligence, or peace? Maybe people just want friends to feel like they belong in this world. Do people just want others to like them for who they really are? Even though, the fundamentals principles of society outcastss individuals who are very different, unique ,“out of the ordinary”—people who are not classified as normal by the judgmental stereotypical superficial standards of society, just because some people adapt to their environment. For example, people with disabilities or people with uniquely different special hidden abilities that the majority of the supposedly “normal” people cannot see due to their lack of awareness and the willful ignorance. ) This does not mean we are not normal people. I have new abilities I never had before. 1 America needs to stop lowering the goals, standards, and expectations of youth and individuals who reach for the starts and dream big... The world we live in is not normal, but then again what is normal anyway? There is no suchno such thing as normal. ,Eeveryone hasveryone has his or her own version of normal, what is normal for one person iIn everyday life might not be normal for me or you so therefore people are all normal from In their own personal perspective. Take meTake me for examplefor example, I am determined and discovering my true potential in writing, so be who you are or who you want to be free have fun. Do not give into peer pressure, you are your own person—a unique unique and special iIndividuals in your own way. know that they are accepted in society. On the other hand, people can admire a person for standing up for what they believe in, fighting for justice, making a difference and changing the world. The truth is nobody knows what people desire the most out of life. Is it possible for one person to desire too much out of life? As a result, the desires of the human heart are too irresistible to control. Although, the most important aspect to remember is how people use their hearts desires to impact the world. Every person has a unique personality with different interests, along with his or her own, dreams and goals. As a result, it is impossible to tell what each person desires in this world. This is a mystery that has eluded mankind since the dawn of time. As a result, this makes some people’s minds wonder deep inside their souls to seek the potential they have to make their talents blossom into something great that they can offer the world so that they can change the workd during their lifetime. The mystery of what mankind desires most out of their subconscious minds, hearts, and souls is the unsolved. This is why people fantasize. Fantasies make the world seem like a better place to live because the subconscious mind does not have any limitations. This leads people to dream of their desires that they want to make into a reality. Most people dream of a perfect world! Do you imagine a perfect world where all of your heart’s desires can come true?

This is my story My name is Sarah Elgohary. I am 25 years old I was born with Cerebral Palsy, but despite my disability I have managed to be a part of a mainstream society and I have accomplished many goals in life I have a great life. Today I had an amazing epiphany: to Ito tell my story. I just a special girl who want to help people and share my experiences with the world . I have a bachelor's degree from Hofstra university in psychology and sociology. I will be a famous writer one. I love anime. I am a very dynamic individual who is a very hardworking, determined, attentive, responsible and versatile person. I believe every new life is a pure, innocent, soul waiting to find its purpose in life. As a result, I wonder what my purpose is in life I want to contribute to the world as much as my family and my friends gave me growing up with my culture, my hobbies, my writing abilities my positive experience, and my future plans. I know I have the potential to help people and make a difference in the world. I love my life even though I have no idea what my next step isn life is .Alhamdullah for everything I have . Honestly I am truly happy and grateful blessed to have amazing family and friends, a high IQ, and loving personality. However, I often do wWonder what'’s my purpose is in life. As a devoted Muslim Allah says to worship him and follow the five pillars and pray 5 times a day , then what do you find a job or finish school. I am going to become a amazing writer and social worker.

I just have to believe in my abilities and not let my disability stand in the way of overcoming my obstacles to achieve my goals and dreams in life. I want to become a counselor and make a difference in the world. By turning my individual situation of having cerebral palsy into solutions that can create a path of advocacy for people who do not have a voice in society, I believe I can enable them to be confident in their own identity. Because I have a physical disability, my experience provides me with a unique sense of empathy for those who are disabled as well as any individual seeking to discover the power of their own voice as a tool to communicate their messages and experiences in life in a peaceful way so that they make people aware of their problems without violence and fear. As a result, there are many issues that emphasize people needing a voice to advocate for themselves. As a counselor or social worker, I want to guide people to become powerful individuals despite their circumstances.

One issue that is important to me is the global problem of Syrian refugees and the Syrian Civil War. I want to advocate for Syrian refugees as well as any group of people who cannot fight for themselves and help individuals discover their inner power and amplify their voice and to the world.

My mother is the most influential person in my life for many reasons. First of all, my mother was born in Egypt. Secondly, she is a very hard worker because she puts all of her energy into taking care of my brothers and me while keeping the house clean. In addition, my mother teaches kindergarten at Herrick’s school every day. I admire her determination, courage, and her passion, in her heart .She never gives up without fight. I will never understand how my mother can balance all of these challenges of life and manages to be the most positive, kind, thoughtful, and caring person I will know in life. She always puts the needs of others before her sacrifices many things to keep my family happy.

My mother is my role model. In my eyes she is a miracle worker. Without her I would not be who I am today. My mother and my father gave me every, single genuine personality attributes I posses. They taught me everything I know and the principles I live by—honesty, by such as honesty, integrity, caring for others, and helping others, determination, passion, courage, and respect. My mother inspires me to never give up and to always work hard to makes my dreams come true. She is always there for me when I need her to talk and vent my feelings to her .Myher. My mother taught me to have confidence and believe in abilities, while never comparing myself to other people. Therefore, she taught me to appreciate everything I have and to help the less fortune. I always remember that.t fact When my family and I visited family in Egypt last summer and I saw so many people and children sitting on the street without food, water, or shelter. I think they have kinder hearts than most Americans. When I visited Egypt even strangers were like family to me and they did not even know me, let alone have anything to their names to give despite that they were ill still willing to give more than they have In order to help my family and I. That really opened my eyes to how fortunate I really am in life. Finally, even though we fight sometimes I will always love my mother. I hope I can be as good a mother to children as she was to me. Family is the most important aspect taught to me by the religious principles given to me by my parents. These principles my parents gave me will stay with me for the rest of my life.

Many people say opposites attract. Are these people making the assumption that individuals who have completely opposite personalities tend to be more likely to become attracted to each other or even fall in love with each other? What do you think? Do you believe that statement to be true? Personally, I do believe that statement to be true because my parents are very different people, yet they have been together for thirty years and they have managed to raise a happy family of children. My parents are the perfect couple. Even though sometimes they might fight, I know my parents love and belong together because they bring out the best of each other; no matter what happens they are always supportive of their children.

My father has a sense of humor. H My father is really funny he always makes me laugh especially when I am upset. Sometimes he makes up funny stories and facial expressions to make light of a situation whenever I am stressed or just complaining about life. My father’s stories always make me forget about my problems. He can make any situation seem funny. Sometimes my father’s jokes are not funny, but the facial expressions he uses, his body language, and the way he says the joke makes me laugh. My father is very random. One minute we could be talking about my school day and getting me a physical therapist. The next minute we could be talking about our favorite food or what we are having for dinner. In addition, we could end up talking about our favorite flavors of ice cream. Then, suddenly we could start talking about how everything Americans‘s buy is made in China and how China has become the United States’ number one trading partner in the world.

My father has a very creative way of making up with me after we have had a fight. First of all, he will try to convince that he is right and he is only doing what he thinks is best for me just like every other father in the world. I keep resisting anting his many attempts to apologize until he tries to see my perspective on the subject. Then, in his final attempt to amends he says he is wrong and I am right, then I soften up to him. Although, I am stillam still mad at him He comes to my room to hours later to see if I have forgotten about the argument we had. I am typically still sulking at him, so he tries to change the subject. He suddenly blurts out some funny random joke out of nowhere and I start cracking up. That is how my father and I make up after an argument. My father’s sense of humor is one of the many redeeming qualities that highlight his my father’s personality.

My mother’s sense of humor is the opposite of my father’s. I love my mother, but sometimes she is very serious. Ironically my mother laughs at the jokes people make when they are not even trying to be funny. My brother, Mohamed is in ninth grade. He takes all advance classes so he comes home complaining about how much he hates his English teacher because he gives too much homework. On Saturday, Mohamed made sarcastic witty remarks about my little brother Gamal’s bad eating habits by telling my mother we had rats. (Mohamed was sarcastically comparing my little brother Gamal to a rat because he got mad at Gamal for secretly nibbling on his corn muffin). My mother laughed at that comment. On Sunday night my father was teaching my mother how to write a check my father make funny yet sarcastic remarks about my mother did not properly write her signature on the check the comment was” you have write on your signature the line not the ceiling of the check”. My mother and I were laughing hysterically. My mother can make laugh.

My parents have the same priorities when it comes to being good parents and managing their careers, but they each deal with their responsibilities differently.each one has a different way of dealing with them. My father is very responsible and practical when it comes to paying all of the bills. My father works as a taxi driver so he does not really a fixed time schedule. I love my father but he not very organized. He does not plan very well; he is very spontaneous he takes a job whenever a customer is available, but his family is his number one priority. My father is very stubborn, but that is good because he always says whatever is on his mind. He is never afraid to stand up for himself and to fight for what he thinks is right no matter what, which I find very admirableif he is right. I really admire him for that reason. He is very determined and very hardworking. He is always very confident and he has a lot of pride in who he is, where he came from, and what he is. He is a good cook, although but not he is not as good of a cook as my mother. My parents are very good at math and science. They always help my brothers and Ie and my brothers with our home work. They both emphasize getting good grades. TheyFor example, my parents are very strict, they only like it when we get nineties or perfect scores on tests. My parents have very high expectations for their children. I think it’s because of the way they were both raised.guess is the way both my parents were raised by their parents. A majorityMost of my mother’s side of the family are doctors. My mother has a degree in business. My father used to be an engineer. My aunt is a school principal. My parents just want my brothers and me to be successful and happy in our future careers.

My mother is an assistant kindergarten teacher at Herrick’s school. My mother is my role model. I do not know how she balances being a very nourishing mother supporting us every day with a job and still finds time for a personal life with her friends. I can discussalleviate my problems with to my parents mother and father. My mother is also very determined and very hardworking like my father. My mother is very organized. She tries to plan everything, out even although that is not entirely possible because then you would ruin the surprise life has to offer. not everything in life can be planned because that ruins the surprise that life has to offer. I think my father taught her that when he brought her from Egypt to America. She is not very spontaneous she always tries to be prepared—she even she prepares dinner for the day the night before. My parents are very courageous people. My mother is timid, but she has learned to be brave, more outgoing, towards my father and her friends. My mother learns new recipes to cook for my father, he points out her flaws in the recipes so she can be a better cook. My mother is an independent person who is responsible, caring, kind, selfless, humble, thoughtful, dedicated, and honest. Thanks to my father’s support she is the best mother in world.

My parents bring out the best of each other and support their children very well. One of the reasons I love my parents very much is because even though theymy parents are very different people who have , they have been together for thirty years,; they have managed to overcome their differences and raise a happy family. Without my parents’ the combined effortss of my parents I would not be the person I am today. In my opinion people who have opposite’s personalities make better couples than people with similar interests.t of my life.

My name is Sarah Elgohary . bBecause our society focuses on p People’s appearance and not heart, tThe majority of people I meet see my wheelchair and disability first before they see me. The first social interaction with someone or lack thereof is a hazard of spending your life in a wheelchair, or so it seems. I wish that wasn’t case, but I can’t change the way people think., I can only change how I react to it.

I have Cerebral Palsy. It is a physical disability that was caused by a brain injury at some point during my birth. I am twenty- five and I love my life. No, you didn’t misread that last statement, I do love my life. Alhumdullah I have a great family and awesome friends, there’s not much more a girl can really ask for. I won’t lie to you and tell you that my life is all rainbows and sunshine as I seem to be, because as you probably guessed by now it’s anything but that. Throughout my twenty-two years, I have learned more than most people my age. I have struggled with my own limitations, laughed until I couldn’t breathe and felt as if I was completely alone. Yes, I’ve had a myriad of emotions about spending my life in wheelchair, but who wouldn’t?

People have often asked me if there was a cure, would I take it. My answer to this question depends on when you ask, 90% of the time it’s no because this disability has made me who I am. It is a part of me, but it doesn’t define me. However, there is other 10% of the time when I would take a cure, more than anything. The physical challenges, the feeling of betrayal by my own body can sometimes be too much for me to carry. When those times come, I think of my family and the majority ofmost friends I have that would help me through it. Although not everyone can fully understand what those moments feel like, the fact that they would do just about anything to put a smile on face is enough for me. However, I do wish that there was someone who had lived through this before to guide me sometimes, but I have learned so much throughout my life.

There are a few lessons I’ve learned over the years that I think are really important.

My wheelchair is a part of my name

There have more times than I can count that I have been referred to as “the wheelchair girl”. Newsflash, I have a name and if you don’t know it, there are other ways to describe me. Do not call me “the wheelchair girl”, the wheelchair is not a part of my body so please, pretty please with a cherry on top, stop making it my whole identity.

It’s really hard to keep a straight face sometimes when people ask questions.

When people ask me questions, I am an open book. I would rather they ask me thaen speculate because I have learned that speculation is never good. I have probably been asked every question in the book, ranging from general from general to extremely personal. “How do move around your house?” This is a common one, I move around my house by walking on my knees because I don’t have a ramp. “Can your wheelchair climb steps?” Sadly, it can’t but that would be so cool. I can definitely say it would make my life and the lives of people around me so much easier. My favorite of all time is “Does your wheelchair go on top of you when you sleep?” I failed miserably to keep a straight face for
