Would Naruto and Sakura have been a better couple than her and Sasuke?
Without a shadow of doubt, they would.
There is hardly anyone who would form a worst couple with Sakura than Sasuke. I can only think of Orochimaru right now for a worst potential husband.
And this isn’t hard to infer, since Sasuke as a husband is as good as nothing. It might be just my poor memory, but I can’t remember any time when Sasuke did anything good for Sakura. I can only remember several times when he did something bad, and several times when Naruto helped or comforted Sakura for the things that Sasuke did.
Impossible not to see it, Naruto had all the advantages over Sasuke in that field. He was always the one whom Sakura could rely on, he was always present, always kind and loyal, he never willingly did anything to hurt her either, contrary to Sasuke, and contrary even to Sakura herself, who often failed to reciprocate his kindness.
People argue that Sasuke was the better suitor because he was the one who Sakura had romantic feelings for, going as far as to say that arguing that she was out of her mind and that Naruto was better would supposedly be sexist. Like forcing Sasuke to marry Sakura when he didn’t have romantic feelings for her isn’t sexist, or making Naruto change his mind to like Hinata isn’t either. This was just an authoral choice. It could have been the other way around just as easily. Basically none of the canon ships had any romantic feelings for their respective partners until the author suddenly decided that they had with minimal to no development.
While I’m turned off by Sakura’s rude treatment of Naruto, they still have several cute moments that almost wash it away. But I don’t remember any climatic good moments between Sasuke and Sakura that made me feel for them the same way at all. There is no romantic tension either, no moment when it feels like Sasuke is finally leaning toward Sakura. But I remember several ones with Naruto, too many to list.
Nothing that is said nowadays can change what already happened. Nothing can erase all the hints to argue that Naruto only fancied Sakura to compete with Sasuke, or to say that Sakura never considered Naruto romantically. Those claims are both proven false many times. The attempt to retcon this was just made to try to settle the dust and to stop the ship wars, in order to justify the final arrangement.

Why doesn't Naruto just do the hokage work, and just create 10 shadow clones or so to train and then disappear at night when he's sleeping so that he acquires this training experience instead of being a bit rusty?
