HISTORY 103                            Professor WILLIAM
ESSAY 1 QUESTON 1 The interaction with the Native Americans was complex; but England’s experiment in the new world prove challenging for families critically discuss.
Christopher Columbus was the first explorer to discover the new world in 1492. He wanted to find a water route to Ind10ia to trade spices but he landed in the Bahamas and then in the new world a variety of intricate and sophisticated cultures of Native Americans dominated sub-Saharan West Africa at the time of the European colonization of the New World. Complicated trade routes stretched across the African continent, tying together diverse cultures. The Portuguese explored the coast of West Africa and began trading in slaves, beginning the massive forced migration of Black Africans to the Americas. The interaction with the Native Americans was complex; but England’s experiment in the new world proves to be more challenging for families.
The Native Americans were the first indigenous people of North America. They lived in tribes.  The people were nomadic; they traveled from place to place looking for food water and shelter. The Native Americans had their own culture; they were very attached to nature. Everyone had a role in the society. The men hunted buffalo and fished for food, they also made their own weapons out of wood such as knifes spears, the bow and arrow.  The people used every part of the buffalo for clothes and survival.  The women gathered fruits, vegetables, grains such as corn and wheat. They took care of their children.  The Native Americans were also very religious people they were polytheists The Native Americans believed that there was a god created for every aspect of nature and life. The Native Americans believed in human sacrifice they has a lot of tribal wars. The Native Americans even has their own local government with a council of the tribal leaders.  Men and women both had roles in the government. The Native Americans has their own civilization with their own traditional languages in which communicated with each other and the neighboring tribes. The Native Americans were a very intelligence society
The Native Americans were very naïve that they welcomed the English settlers with open arms.  The English settlers came to the new world for many reasons. One reason is England’s population in 1580 to 1635 the population went from 3.5 million to 5 million people. Some English settlers went to the new world for greed. People wanted gold, money, People to find jobs, new lives a sense of purpose People wanted religious freedom.  Some English settlers went to the new world to escape from jail because they were criminals who committed crimes such as murder and robbery. Some English settlers went to the new world for relief from bad marriages.
However, Life in the new world was very difficult for English settlers. Many English settlers died soon after their arrival to the world. The English settlers faced many conflicts with the Native Americans. Many English settlers viewed the Native Americans as uncivilized savages .As a result, of this belief  English settlers  wanted to send missionaries to the Native Americans to convert them to Christianity a  dominant religion along with Islam in the new world. My perspective is that The English settlers are the uncivilized savages for wanting to convert the Native Americans to Christianity to turn them to so called” civilized human beings”. When in reality the ironic is that the Native Americans viewed the English settlers as uncivilized savages. In my opinion, the Native Americans were very civilized people and the English settlers were the one being selfish for taking the  the Native Americans land, culture, beliefs ,people, religion, and trying to made   the Native Americans people into a plural society where the English settlers had all the power. The diverse culture of the Native Americans tribes and their interaction with English settlers is what I believe make the society we live in today a heterogeneous society.  People many not realize it but even though the native  Americans hated the English settlers they mixed many of their own  diverse cultures  with English settlers culture with  interaction in world. The mixing not combining of different cultures while they are maintaining their own unique independent racial identity. The influence of Native Americans on English settlers is what made a heterogeneous society possible today. I believe our heterogeneous society would not exist today if it was not for the cultural foundation that Native Americans gave to the English settlers. Ironically The English settlers killed many Native Americans in war over their land. The English settlers killed many Native Americans by the spread of disease that the Native Americans bodies were not immune to diseases killed off a majority of the Native Americans population. I think it is ironic and funny that even though the Native Americans and The English settlers hated each other they were still trading partners The English settlers traded fur with the Native Americans in exchanged The English settlers gave the Native Americans weapons and ammunition.
Even through the interaction with the Native Americans was complex; England’s experiment in the new world prove challenging for families.  Raising families in the world was more challenging for English settlers for many reasons. An account from the Witherspoon family who moved from Great Britain to the new world, states that the mother and children were still an expectation that we were coming to an agreeable place.   Family was very difficult to establish in the new world.  Robert the father of    the Witherspoon family   confessed “but when we arrived and saw nothing but a wilderness and instead of a fine timbered house, nothing but a dirt house, our sprits quiet sunk.”For many years the Witherspoon family feared that they would be attacked by Indians and snakes. The Witherspoon family survived the harsh conditions of life in the new world.   In my opinion families’ experiences in new world created early colonial American history.
The United States of Americans was not formed simply by English settlers coming to the new world peopling of the Atlantic frontier, the cutting down of forests nor the creations of new communities  were one could see from house and house” was a process that involved what we would recognize today as state policy. It was families who created the foundation of this nation. Men and women struggle and ability to powerful decisions about the character of their lives within families .it was within the primary social unit that people earned their livelihoods and educated their children People lived by the traditional views of   England society for stability.  Families were not isolated, but they were traditional a mother a father a brother a sister small family. If a family had five children only one child survives. It is sad but children and settlers died from diseases. Women had freedom in marriages the parents of young women only consented in the marriages if they did not approve the broom.  Some English settlers married Native Americans.
I do not think religion was as big of an influence in marriages in colonial America as it is in modern society today. In colonial America only the father had to work to support the family. It was a mother job to raise their children based on the traditional values and morals that they learned from their parent from past generations. The children were like puppets intimating their parents own traditional values to raise their children.  Children had no freedom no self expression they had no self awareness of how to form their own opinions to find their true perspective on life to become true individuals because they were not exposed to any diversity of cultures on the traditional values. There was no individualism in colonial America because English settlers created a plural society where an immediate family was united and could communicate easily as a result, of the English settlers authority and maintenance of power over the Native Americans.
Today society is heterogeneous a mixed but not combined variety of different cultures that maintain their own individuality. In today society families are more distant from each other as opposed the united family in a plural society.  In a family today both parents work to make money to survive in bad economy with modern technology that there less communication between children and parents, which is very sad. In my opinion communication between families is what made the plural society so successful in colonial America. Today society is heterogeneous because unlike in a plural society today families have diversity of cultures to express to their identities.  The heterogeneous society we have today allows children to have more freedom, independent and individually from their families. The heterogeneous societies we have today to children develop their own opinions to raise their children with a unique mix of traditional and modern values.
In my opinion, our heterogeneous society would not exist today if the interaction with the Native Americans and the English settlers was not complex. Although my sympathies are towards the Native Americans for how the English settlers treated them. English settlers plural society was crucial for English settlers to raise families. Families interactions with other families coming to the new world from diverse backgrounds led to the heterogeneous society we have today.
