Emily Dickinson’s contributions to Literature through poetry.

I think Emily Dickinson is a wonderful poet that has changed many people’s lives. In my opinion, Emily Dickinson’s life was very mysterious. Although, I may never fully understand the concept of why she isolated herself from the rest of the world, I have discovered some logical reasons behind her decision. The first being her father, Edward Dickinson, was a lawyer, treasurer, and a congressman.  As a result he was always busy and never had to spend time with his family. Ironically, Emily’s mother, who was also named Emily Dickinson, was also never home until she eventually was restricted with paralysis. Unfortunately has very absent parent who I am sure loved their daughter very much, despite the fact that they were not involved and they did not know how to express their love for her. Therefore, Emily was forced into more isolation because her parents forced her to attend Holy Mount Seminary, a school far away from her home town of Amherst. After a year of home sickness, Emily Dickinson returned to Amherst. She never left her home town again expect for when she underwent eye treatment in Philadelphia and Washington D C. Overall, I think her isolation was sad. I blame her unsupportive parents because after her mother died she and her sister had to do all the house work. Emily and her siblings had no one to look after them. Overall, Emily Dickinson and her siblings had parents, but ironically they were not there. Emily and her family (Her sister Lavina and her brother Austin) had to raise themselves on their own, as if their parents no impact on their lives. I was to surprised it did not affect her successful career in a negative way. She still managed to express herself in every way through poetry with a variety of themes such as life, love, nature, society, death, power, and fantasy. I love Emily Dickinson’s poems except for the poems about death because they are really sad and depressing. The only poem about death by Emily Dickinson that I like is, “I Can Not Stop Death” where she personifies death. I assume she wrote this poem during her two year illness before she died. I like, “Success is Sweetest” by Emily Dickinson because I think it really conveys a message and the feeling of pride when you finally reach and achieve your goal in life. This was one of the first poems she ever wrote. Furthermore, I believe every single one of Emily Dickinson’s poems has a very insightful message about every aspect of humanity, emotions, and how to achieve them with her own expression of poetic voice. I enjoyed reading all of Emily Dickinson’s poems. Above all, my favorite poem by Emily Dickinson is “I am a Nobody. Are you a Nobody too.” because I can relate to it. Emily Dickinson wrote this poem during her isolation where she met her true friend, Tom Higginson. My point is if I ever underestimated someone, it is Emily Dickinson. Before this research paper I had never studied a poet especially someone with a very unusual lifestyle. I guess I was wrong about her. She used her life’s obstacles to her advantage in order to turn the negative concept of isolation into a positive one to become one of the most successful poets.      Emily Dickinson’s contributions to Literature through poetry.
Throughout history, there have been many Influential writers such as William Shakespeare, Harper Lee, Nicklaus Sparks, and Emily Dickinson, Each writer has his or her own unique interpretation of literature based on his or her influences and life experiences. Every writer has their own way bringing a message to life in the interest of the readers. Emily Dickinson’s life was the inspiration for her poetry.
Emily Dickinson was born in Amherst, Massachusetts in a homestead on December10, 1866.She was the daughter of Emily Norcross Dickinson and Edward Dickinson.Emily Dickinson was one three children, she had  a sister named Lavinia  Dickinson and a brother named  Austin Dickinson.. In addition, her mother was never home until she was restricted to bed with paralysis for two years. She and Austin wrote to a friend named Ann “I never had a mother”.  (The Critical Survey of Great American Woman Writers 56-60). Emily and Lavinia took care of all the chores.  They both became housekeeper and were never married .Mean while, Austin became a lawyer just like her father Emily did all the cooking, she Made Ginger bread cakes, and Rye bread. She loved to work where she planted vegetables and flowers in her garden. I assume that is how she was inspired to write poems about nature. Nature was a dominant theme in her poetry. In addition ,she loved to represent robins as her friends who always flew just as friends come and go, but family always support you no matter what happens in life.
            I
In  her early childhood,  Dickinson was very sociable, she liked theater and music. As a result, of family problems, she underwent the transition of isolated life style In addition; to the traditional housekeeper she was a Christian of the Nineteen century. (Literature in its times 158).Emily Dickinson attended Amherst Academy at age of nine with her sister Furthermore, she attended Holy Mount Female Seminary forced by her parents, a religious private  school for girls. As result, of severe homesickness she returned home to Amherst and never left again expect for Philadelphia for eye treatment and Washington DC. Finally, she graduated from Amherst Adamancy in 1847.Dickinson settled home at Seventeen with her ordinary conservation of Amherst life. “She created her own little world of images of the world she knew “(Critical Survey of Poetry 1042). Many people inspired Emily Dickinson. Most importantly, Emily Dickinson’s inspiration came from sister Lavinia and her brother Austin who were also her closest friends. In addition, she also loved many authors in literature such as Edgar Allan poet, William Shakespeare, Walt witman, and Raplh Waldo.Other influential character of Dickinson was her sister in law Susan Gilbert who was Emily’s classmate and sister in law who married Austin. In addition, she was   also a critic of       Dickinson’s poetry. Furthermore, Tom Higginson who had an eight-year correspondence with Dickinson helped build her career in poetry. Mary Todd was a neighbor of Dickinson who loves her poetry and later Lavinia gather all of Dickinson’s poetry in a seven-volume collection after she died. Lastly, Emily Dickinson “unobtainable love “Charles Was worth a married Minster who lived a great distance from her was the inspiration of her love poems such as the poem” Happy Letter “and “I Am Alive” Emily Dickinson started writing poetry at twenty-eight years old when she became a housekeeper. She explored almost every theme known to humanity based on her environment such as love, death, power, isolation. One of Dickinson most popular poems is I’m Nobody!

“I ‘m Nobody! Who Are You?
Are you -Nobody _Too
Then there’s a pair of us?
Don’t Tell! They’d advertise -you know!
How dreary to be Someday!
                     How public like a Frog
                        To tell one”s livelong June
To an admiring Blog “. (Johnson 47)
Although, this poem is written in a gentle tone it conveys message of the essential component that people fear the most in society being an outcast, the pure feeling of loneliness when you think you do not belong in this world. As a result, you start to discover what true friends are on the journey of through self-discovery of who you really are as a person. Dickinson simultaneously ˌaddresses the fact that in society people are idealists they want a perfect world. People always want to fit with the crowd even if the crowd reject them for who they really are .On the other hand, Emily Dickinson did not succumb to societal pressures just to fit in with society. She became who she want to be she did not let anything stand in the way of achieve her goals in life that is something her readers can really admire about her.
Writing poetry was the only way she expressed herself and her Sense of accomplishment in life. She conveyed this message in the poem
“Success is the Sweetest”
By those who ne’er succeed.
To comprend a nectar
Require a sorest need
Not one of all the purple Host
Who took the flag today.
Can tell victory                                                                                                                       As he defeated_ dying_
On whose forbidden ear.
The distant strains of triumph
Burst agonized clear! (Johnson 7).
People want to success in life, before you can understand success you need to have the desire to achieve their goals in life. People have their way of over coming obstacles to achieve their goals in life no matter how long it takes them. When you finally accomplish your goal you have just an over whelming feeling of pride and victory you cannot define. When you have accomplished a goal, it feels as if the sky is limit and the possibilities are endless. You feel as if all of the power of the world is at your fingertips and you put the flag of victory on conquered land. As soon as you accomplish a task, a door of opportunities will open up to you in life.
