                                Modern Novels 
Life of Pi
All novels focus on some aspects of literary elements such as characterization, plot, and theme.   All novels do not emphasize these aspects equally because writers love to convey certain messages to readers.   As a result, of the type of messages authors try to convey to their audience, a novel can be plot driven, character driven, or theme driven.  A plot driven story means that the reader gets the most pleasure out of figuring out how the story unfolds. In addition, another category of books are theme driven, which means that the reader gets the most simulation and pleasure from the central focus appears to be on conveying certain ideas, ideals,  or lessons. The last category of literary pieces is a character driven novel. In this category the appeal of the work is for the reader to see what these fascinating people do or say when dropped into a certain situation. Therefore, in my opinion Life of Pi is a character driven novel for many reasons.
Life of Pi is a story about a boy who is a zookeeper and a vegetarian.  Pi and his family live in India. Pi is a very loving moral and humble individual.  He is a very faithful person. He practices three religions: Islam, Christianity, Hinduism.  Pi’s entire life changes when he and his family traveled to the United States on a cargo ship.   The ship sinks and Pi loses his entire family. After the ship wreck, Pi is the only human left stranded on a life boat with a wounded zebra, an orangutan, a hyena and a tiger cub named Richard Parker.  Over the course of time the other animals die and Pi is left to survive with Richard Parker on a life boat for two hundred and twenty seven days. 
Pi’s character changes dramatically after the accident because he does whatever it takes to survive on the lifeboat.  Yann Matel, writes Life of Pi in three parts.  The first part t of Life of Pi is adult Pi telling a report about when he survived on the on the life boat.
