How time flies when you are having fun

I  love Egypt  life is too short  to get upset with the world     I love my family and life I learned to live in movement I am enjoying my life times flies when you are having fun                            I remember hurricne
My Hurricane Irene Experience
Statics show that hurricanes hit New York Long Island on average every seventy five years.  Actually, the first recorded hurricane to hit Long Island was a category two storm on August twenty five 1893. . Hurricanes do not typically hit large cities like New York. www.nymag.com //my metro news people columns intelligence 2098).  Hurricanes on the East Coast happen once every seventy five years. The New York Times called it an “Unexpected Fury West Indian Monster.” The storm sunk many boats and killed many sailors. In addition, in Central Park there were a lot of trees knock down.  The aspect that surprised me the most was the thirty foot storm surge in Brooklyn (www.nymag.com //my metro news people columns intelligence 2098).
One hundred and eighteen years later another hurricane has hit, once again in August, on the weekend of August twenty seven – twenty eight.  It was a very peaceful, innocent weekend for me considering my first, hurricane had hit. The storm did not affect my weekend at all. It did not reach my expectations or the anticipation of News Twelve Long Island and the citizens of Long Island. I was very surprised the hurricane actually hit New Hyde Park.  I did not think it would hit because hurricanes need warm air and tropical weather to form. Even though, it was very humid hurricanes need the ocean to gather energy due to the speed they travel at and where hurricanes occur.
My weekend was ordinary except for constantly being forced to watch the Weather Channel all Saturday because my very paranoid brother was worried about how severe the hurricane was going to be. He even made my mother get candles, flashlights, bottled water canned food and a radio in the case the power went out. I thought the weather channel and News Twelve Long Island were over reacting so the network would not get complaints like it did last winter after it did not cover that huge snow storm in February.
It makes me laugh how much my brother was worried about the storm. My family and I were very fortunate that nothing serious happened to us during the storm. I wish I could say the same about my friends who lost power for days. I will never forget how funny it was to see my brother panicked over my mother and father’s safety. It was funny because it was Saturday afternoon and the storm had not started yet. My parents were shopping for shoes and shirts for my dad at Lord and Taylor for a few hours. My brother, Mohamed who we like to call the paranoid worry wart, could not stop calling my parents telling them to come home before they got caught up in the storm. He was even pacing back and forth at the door until my parents came home watching Mohamed was like to watching a soap opera.
All the evacuations in Nassau Country were unnecessary, in my opinion.  The storm was not terrible considering all the commotion on the news. It was very heavy rain and bunch of exaggeration to get people hyper with anxiety .It is funny how many miscalculations were made by the Weather Channel.   There were several things that surprised me about the storm though. The first aspect was the amount of people that lost power. Newsday had reported a week after the hurricane that there are still eighty nine thousand people who are without power.”In total there were five thousand twenty three homes on Long Island that lost power. As well as three million homes lost power on the East Coast. In fact, LIPA says it will cost one hundred seventy six million dollars to repair the damage from hurricane Irene.  Second the severe flooding upstate I thought Long Island was supposed get the worse of the storm and upstate area was not even supposed to get hit got the worst of it.
The storm did not scary me. In fact, I experienced the final weekend of August like  every other summer day. I was just really sick of the rain blocking the beautiful sun from shining and forcing it   to hide behind the clouds for two days straight. The weekend of the storm, my family and I were fasting Ramadan. We cannot eat anything from sun rise to sun set. For that reason on Saturday I woke up at noon and went back to bed at twelve thirty when I realized the power went out. The power stayed out for forty the weekend of the storm five minutes so while the power was out I slept until one. Then, since my family was fortunate the power returned the same day.   I took a very long relaxing two hour shower. Then I watched television until there was nothing that I liked to watch. Lastly, I went on the computer to watch Anime for six hours until it was time for dinner In addition to watching Anime I also talked to many friends on face book from high school to pass the time.
On Sunday night, for dinner we ate my favorites. In Ramadan it traditional to break your fast by eating a date before you start the actual meal. When it was finally time for the actual dinner we ate two chickens stuffed with rice and a side of Egyptian green soup called Molokai-. My Sunday ended  in a very smoothly in a very anti climatic way personally I felt as if the hurricane was not even a hurricane it was a bad thunder storm. It was interesting because when hurricane Irene hit long island it was not even a hurricane anymore it was a tropical storm.
The most mysterious problem is the issue with my computer. It was working perfectly on the day of the storm. The next day my computer would not turn on properly without two consecutive beeps it was not working at all. It is interesting that the worst aspect of my hurricane Irene experience was the problem with my computer, which was not fixed until a week after the hurricane so it works fine now.  My family and I were very blessed that we safe at home during the storm.
The one miracle that happened out of my boring hurricane experience was the miracle of birth.   I was so amazed when I heard about the lamb that gave birth in the storm. The baby was not even hurt so the farmer named the baby Irene after the storm for its strong spirit. Despite the fact that I thought the storm was not a big deal, it obviously meant a great deal to the farmer who was not only fortunate to that he survived the storm unharmed, he also got the blessing of a baby lamp that was healthy in  the middle of the hurricane that he decided to name her Irene. I think it very ironic.
