The serious problem of homelessness

There are many problems in society.  People tend to look at these problems, levels, and structures of society at face value. But in order to understand why society is the way it is, people have to be like sociologists and peel away the layers individually to see where the problems really lie and find the solutions to fix social problems.   Homelessness Is One of the main problems in society, but most people do not see homelessness as a social Issue .American sociologist C. Wright Mills came up with the term “sociological imagination.Mills was trying to say that in order for people to understand the world they need to peel away the layers of society, which means that people need to analyze a specific aspect of society in terms of all the different factors that are causing it.  Most people do not have the sociological imagination, which is why they only look at homelessness through one aspect. They do not look at all of the different elements that cause homelessness in society.
According to the New York Times Debate Room, Kevin Corinth is a research fellow in economic policy. He studies works as a researcher? at the American Enterprise Institute, where he focuses on homelessness and the programs and policies put in place to assist the homeless. (Nytimes.com/room for debate/2015/02/19/homes).  Therefore, Kevin Corinth sees homelessness as a really important social issue that needs to be addressed by the public and fixed in society. This is despite the fact that he never really directly says that homelessness is an issue. Instead he identifies the dilemma of homelessness from many different angles by saying things like “Homelessness is not that simple the solution to homelessness, they say, is simply to give homeless people homes.” or” homelessness requires many different solutions. (Nytimes.com/room for debate/2015/02/19/homes)”. “Kevin C. Corinth does not view homelessness as just one simple issue.  In fact, from his perspective there are many different aspects of homelessness and homeless people, Corinth sees a very large portion of homelessness from people who are chronically ill or mentally ill or have substance abuse. Few homeless people are employed or have family networks. Corinth supports Home First a nonprofit organization that provides homeless people with shelters or homes, in providing homes for the homeless. This is despite the fact that he does not think that providing homes for the homeless is a permanent solution to homelessness. It is only a start to fixing the problem because he believes that   all people need a safe, secure, house to live in before your other obstacles in life can be addressed. If chronically homeless people are housed and society does not address their other needs “then we have failed them” (nytimes.com/room for debate/2015/02/19/homes).   says Corinth. Most of the other candidates unlike Corinth think that providing housing is best solution to homelessness.   Burdett even thinks that homeless people can create their own solutions.
Yes I can discern more than one ideology to Corinth stance on homelessness. First of all,  I got the sense that Corinth is a very moral person with a strong sense of equality because he does not seem to favor one race over  the other, even though he does show more emphasis on the treatment of chronically homeless people than other types of homeless people.   Despite that fact he gives off the impression of how serious homelessness really is and he seems to genuinely care about the well being of homeless people in society.   I think that he is loyal to homeless people and he wants to treat them all equally and fairly.
Corinth makes his clams by dividing his position on homelessness into three aspects of homelessness.   The three aspects to homelessness that he defines are homelessness is not just one simple issue, the different types of homelessness, and the solutions to homelessness. He first talks about an organization Housing First which In his opinion has become “has become the rallying call of a new generation of social entrepreneurs and politicians – the solution to homelessness, they say, is simply to give homeless people homes(New York Times Room Debate 1).  After that Corinth talks about how he sees a very large portion of homelessness from people who are chronically ill or mentally ill or have substance abuse. Few homeless people are employed or have family networks. Finally, Corinth finishes his arguments by taking about how he does not think that providing homes for the homeless is a permanent solution to homelessness it is only a start to fixing the problem. Kevin. Corinth’s research on homelessness is economic, social, and political research based on his work with the American enterprise Institute. Corinth studies the economic policies on homelessness. In addition, he also examines   programs that can help the homeless find houses and other resources that they need. These programs can be social ones like housing first. They can also be political and economic programs such as welfare, social security disability programs and programs for food stamps.
Yes Kevin Corinth‘s affiliation with the American Enterprise Institute drives their argument for homeless people economically, socially and politically for many reasons.  First of all, the American Enterprise Institute is an organization that AEI is a private, nonpartisan, not-for-profit institution dedicated to research and education on issues of government, politics, economics and social welfare. AEI’s purpose is to serve leaders and the public through research and education on the most important issues of the day. AEI research is conducted through seven primary research divisions: Economics, Foreign and Defense Policy, Politics and Public Opinion, Education, Health, Energy and the Environment and Society and Culture

Yes     I believe that Kevin Corinth is conniving and  I would be receptive Because I like how he defines homelessness  as three separate issues . In addition, I agree with Corinth that giving homeless people housing is not a permanent solution to homelessness.  This is because there are many different reasons that can cause people to become homeless such as poverty, unemployment, substance abuse, and divorce.   As a result, of the reason that a person or group of people becomes homeless they must be provided with all of the services they need to stand on their own again.   Depending on each person’s circumstances getting a house to live in is just a start and it does not fix all of the problems of homeless. In addition if homeless people are not fully employed then they cannot support themselves (pay off the house that was given to them), and then they cannot become productive members of society.  As a result homeless people given homes can become homeless again if we do not provide them with every single resource needed so they never become homeless again and become strong productive, permanent members of society. This is real permanent solution to homelessness not just a house given to a large population of people in society can fix them.   This is what makes homelessness a real social problem because major social problems cannot be solved by one simple solution.
