Assignment 3 is Human Beings born to be Naturally Selfish in Life Threatening Situations
I do not believe that all human beings should be selfish creatures. I believe in the golden rule, treat all people the way that you want them to treat you.  Therefore, if I was on the life boat I would try to save  as many lives as possible because  I would want people  to save  my life. Even If I was not one of the seven people on the life boat, I would hope that at least one person on the ship is willing to save my life in this situation. Therefore, I believe  what the captain did was absolutely wrong because he did not have sacrifice twenty three  lives just  to save seven in individuals . This is not fair to the people who died in the accident because no human lives are worth sacrificing to save other human lives.  Human lives could be equally valued even though there was only one   life boat. I do not care what other people say, but I believe that no human lives are more superior then others. It does not matter who you are. The captain actions are never justified. He made a bad decision that caused the lives of twenty three people to be thrown away senselessly in order to save seven people in the same circumstances. It does not make any sense to me. This is extremely contradictory to common sense and the principle of Utilitarianism:which states that a moral action depends on the number of people that the action benefits and the Greatest happiness principle in my opinion. What gives the captain the right to think that the lives of the seven people are worth more than the lives of the twenty three people?  The captain is a murderer not a moral hero. He made the wrong decision; he did not have to willing kill twenty three people   He acted very selfishly in his decision because he was only taking into account his life and the lives of the seven strongest people who could help him survive, not the safety of all of the thirty passengers on the ship as a whole.
