I am a 29 Year old, who wants to change the status quo of society. I want to make the world a better place for future generations by becoming a therapist so I can help people with their problems. This is in order to enlighten them to discover the power of their own voice. Therefore, my clients will learn to develop self advocacy skills to make people comfortable with their identities so they are proud of their differences and are able to become powerful individuals who can overcome any obstacles. I was born with Cerebral Palsy, but despite my disability, I have managed to be a part of mainstream society and I have accomplished many goals in life.  --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------  The media’s portrayal of women, specifically in magazines and music videos in regard to body image, effects their own perception of themselves in society Sarah Elgohary Hofstra University 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 There have been many studies on the negative portrayals of women in the media and the relationship between media and women’s body image. These are expectations that every individual in society is trained to follow and obey.  Engeln-Maddox’s, R. (2005, p. 5) purpose of the study is to analyzed the relationship between the ideal that thin women ...

My journey I Love my family

Preface  What do people desire the most in their lives? Do people want religion, love, attention, technology, money, fame, intelligence, or peace? In addition, maybe people just want friends to feel as if they belong in this world. Therefore, do people just want others to like them for who they really are as individuals? Even though, the fundamentals principles of society have outcasts individuals who are very different , unique “out of the ordinary “people who are not classified as normal by the judgmental stereotypical superficial standards of society, just because some people adapt to their environment and work ( In different ways or in a variety of ways uniquely suited to them example people with disabilities or people with uniquely different special hidden abilities that the majority of the supposedly “normal” unaccustomed people cannot see due to their lack of awareness and the willful ignorance ) This does not we are not normal people I have new...

The negative impact of reality shows

Sarah Elgohary Professor Shih   2/11/16 Soc 181 Sociology Reality TV and Body Image Research Paper Introduction  There is a saying “True beauty is only skin deep,” but if this saying were truly the case then why is it that an individual’s appearance is the first thing that people in our society judge when we first meet them? A person grows slowly. They need family, friends, teachers, and social groups to help gain a perspective or worldview. An individual needs to learn about social norms, morals, good and bad behaviors, how to build good character, gain knowledge, a good education, and obtain a large well connected social capital network of friends. This will help an individual achieve their dreams and goals in life and become a successful productive, member of society who knows how to make a good decision that not only benefits himself or herself, but benefits all of society as well. This is due to the way we are socialized in society. As a result, fr...

Blindness

Blindness From the Truth in O Connor’s Fiction Final essay 2 revised   Reality is not always black and white: there is an extensive gray zone, but Flannery O Connor’s characters fail to represent or understand that O Connor’s claims are complex, so she uses irony to suggest how characters are often blind to the reality around them. For example, a person may be physically blind, but that does not mean the person cannot see their environment For example, in reality a blind person can sometimes see better than a person who has sight because blind people are more perceptive . Furthermore, people who can physically see do not always really open their eyes to the important things that really matter in life. As O Connor shows even her most intelligent, or well-well-mannered characters can be blind to the most obvious circumstances. O Connor uses blindness as a metaphor for people who cannot see the true reality of the atmosphere we live in because they get so caught up in t...

My voice

To whom it may concern, I am applying for the Care Management position at ACA. I found the position on LinkedIn. I consider myself an advocate and a good writer. I have experience writing case notes, creating resume and cover letters, and asset with career assessments when I worked at Abilities. I am a hard working passionate person who is a good team player.  As a counselor, I would have a unique sense of empathy for people who do not have a voice in society. I want to help people learn to advocate for themselves and develop their own voice. "Your voice is the most useful tool you have"listen to and see each other’s perspectives. I realized that I was never going to stand idly by and do nothing when people are in trouble. This experience taught me that I have the power to advocate for myself and others. This was a realization for me because when I learned to advocate for myself, I was able to communicate my needs without worrying about whether others would advocate for ...
