Anime influence on women's gender roles in

Gender Representations in Anime and movies: A View from SCAFFU The Portrayal of Women in Media Sarah Elgohary Anthropology 003 Culture and Transmission Professor Bradley Philips Mini Ethnography project Introduction I chose to observe the Sci-Fi, Comic, Anime, and Fantasy Fans United, (SCAFFU) club for my mini-ethnography project. I am interested in the way movies and anime shows influence how people behave and how they are socialized in society. Personally, I believe that the media portrays a negative, sexualized view of women through unrealistic expectations in regard to body image, occupation, and gender roles. I wanted to know how different anime series portray women and men in society and what the gender representation differences are between men and women in anime and movies.  Background information AndrĂ©a wager, a senior at Hofstra University, founded the SCAFFU in 2009.  According to their mission statement, SCAFFU strives to create “A place for nerds to be nerd...

I will never give up on my dream social worker is good for me

Helping others through social work is one of my main goals and passions in life. I have always wanted to advocate for people. Having cerebral palsy makes me realize how important it is to independently convey your own messages and communicate your ideas in a positive light. My experience with cerebral palsy has taught me that only the individual can truly advocate for themselves. As a result, I have learned that even people with the best interests and intentions to help you (your parents, friends or your support system) can advocate for you. However, only you can convey your message to reflect its significance to you. Therefore, my life experiences and perspectives enhance my desire to teach any individual self advocacy skills so they never struggle with expressing themselves. As counselor, I can empower my clients with the ability to stand up for what they believe is right, and fight for justice.  People do not realize how powerful of a tool an individual's voice is, even i...

Social worker is a good idea for me

Helping others through social work is one of my main goals and passions in life. I have always had a desire to advocate for people because having cerebral palsy makes me realize how important it is to independently convey your own messages and communicate your ideas in a positive light. My experiences with cerebral palsy has taught me that only the individuals can truly advocate for themselves because they are the only ones who can fully understand the severity of their problems and fully convey their experiences in life, As a result I have learned that even people with the best intentions to help you (your parents) can advocate for you. However, they will never be able to fully advocate for you, and convey your message, with the same level of passion, importance that you have. Therefore, my disability enhances my desire to teach any individual self advocacy skills so they never struggle with expressing themselves, so they never need anyone to advocate for them. As counselor, I c...

I know I have the potential to help people and make a difference in the world    I just have to believe in my abilities and not let my disability stand in the way of overcoming my obstacles to achieve my goals and dreams in life.   I want to become a counselor and make a difference in the world.
