Media in Latin America

Sarah Elgohary LAS Research paper online  Abstract  As implied by John Mil Stuart, “The only way in which human can make some approach to knowing the whole of a subject is by hearing what is said by every person of every variety of opinion and by studying all the modes in which it can be looked at by every character of mind.” No man ever acquired his wisdom in any way but this.” (David Haugen, pg 7).  I believe this theory to be true. People have yielded to the influence of television and media as if their life depends on it. It is funny because as stated by Darry F Zanuck in 1949, “Television won’t be able to hold on to the market. “ People will soon get tired of starting at a plywood box” (David Haugen, 88). What Darry F Zanuck said is the exact opposite of the role of television media in society   today. Media and television both promote three negative things in teenagers’ drugs and alcohol use, sex and violence. As a result teenagers imitate what they se...

The benefits cons media and technology in the morden world

Sherry Turkle and Nickolas Carr each discuss their own unique perspective on Ideas and the Impact of technology in society in different ways.   For Instance,   Sherry Turkle discusses both positive and negative effects of computers in  her piece “ How Computers Change the Way We Think “ In this piece, she makes a  an argument that not only is there “no simply way” to establish whether the changes of technology  are good or bad but she also saying that after each step individuals take we have “ to ask educators, citizens whether  current technology is leading us in directions that serve our human purposes.”” “These types of questions are not only technical, but they are also social, moral, and political questions that society has to ask people in order To determine if technology has more benefits than negatives. On the hand, Nickolas Carr believes that the Impact of technology Is only negative unlike Sherry Turkle because his thesis sta...

I hate online dating  people are lying on profile they are fake people. There is no real close connection if you are hiding behind a computer screen you can just say what the heck you want and what the other person wants to hear because you don't really see anything about them or read their facial expressions or emotions . people need to meet with you face to face to find the right person  How to be lucky in love   TED Guest Author 2 years ago Being lucky in love isn’t like being struck by lightning — it’s a lot less random (and painful). Psychologist Barry Schwartz and biological anthropologist Helen Fisher share their opinions on the subject. “A lucky relationship is created, not discovered,”  Barry Schwartz  said when Barnaby and I called him one morning. A longtime professor at Swarthmore, Schwartz became nationally known for his surprising research on choice (TED Talk:  The paradox of choice ). He showed that while we think having man...

The power and influence of the internet and technology

Sarah Elgohary  Sociology 156 12/11\14   Second paper Final Professor Gail Sailer All the mediums we have discussed have one thing in common.  That is, the fact that they all made reference to boundaries and borders.  There are four different types of boundaries in the media. These boundaries are spatial, temporal, interpersonal and intrapersonal.   An example of spatial boundary is the physical space between the environment and the different interactions of people. The temporal boundary refers to time; past present and future. It can also refer to how the past, present and future interact with one another. The third boundary deals with the interpersonal reactions and interactions of people. The interpersonal boundary consists of all aspects concerning or involving relationships between people.  The intrapersonal boundary deals with interactions with people in society and in their everyday life. The intrapersonal boundary also focuses on the in...

The impression of love

Love Love  is a complex set of  emotions , behaviors, and beliefs associated with strong feelings of affection, protectiveness, warmth, and respect for another person. Love can also be used to apply to non-human animals, to principles, and to religious beliefs. For example, a person might say he or she loves his or her dog, loves freedom, or loves God. WHAT IS LOVE? Love has been a favored topic of philosophers, poets, writers, and scientists for generations, and different people and groups have often fought about its definition. While most people agree that love implies strong feelings of affection, there are many disagreements about its precise meaning, and one person’s “I love you” might mean something quite different than another’s. Some possible definitions of love include: A willingness to prioritize another’s well-being or happiness above your own. Extreme feelings of  attachment , affection, and need. Dramatic, sudde...
